In recent decades the&nbsp;<a title=\"Earth science\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Earth_science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">earth science<\/a>&nbsp;community has started to construct 3D geological models as a standard practice. 3D models can also be the basis for physical devices that are built with&nbsp;<a title=\"3D printer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/3D_printer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">3D printers<\/a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a title=\"CNC machine\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/CNC_machine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNC machines<\/a>.&nbsp;The medical industry uses detailed models of organs; these may be created with multiple 2-D image slices from an MRI or CT scan. The movie industry uses them as characters and objects for animated and real-life&nbsp;<a title=\"Film\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Film\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">motion pictures<\/a>. The&nbsp;<a title=\"Video game industry\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Video_game_industry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">video game industry<\/a>&nbsp;uses them as assets for&nbsp;<a title=\"Video game\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Video_game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">computer and video games<\/a>.
